Thoughts from a Rambling Redhead
Eve’s Defining Moment
I teach about Eve. There is a lot we can learn from her. But as I was in chapel the other day, the pastor was speaking on this, and the Lord was working in my heart on another thought. We all have defining moments in our lives, and I think this was Eve’s. She is talking with the serpent here, and instead of running away from him, she is arguing/discussing with him. The Bible says that the serpent was more subtil than any other beast (3:1). The word subtil means crafty, marked by skill in deception (Logos). Why did she think she could argue with him or debate him? He was skilled in being deceptive!! If she had just walked away, this story would have had a very different outcome. But you know, we have moments too! We think we can ‘argue’ with Satan about certain things or step right up to the borderline of things and think we will not be marred by it. At any point in Eve’s discussion, she could have walked away before it went too far. We are the same. At any time, we can walk away. We never know where that border begins, and it is dangerous to play around with. Why do we even question what God says? If God said it, that should be good enough. We shouldn’t try to argue our point or see how close we can get without going over the border. So easy to say, so hard to do. That’s why the Bible talks about placing borders up. Why? We all have issues that we deal with, and we don’t know where that borderline of crossing over is. We are human, we will mess up at some point. We will be discouraged with ourselves and think God can’t use us anymore. But we serve a God of second (and many more) chances. Praise the Lord! He’s not done with us if we let Him use us!!
