Thoughts from a Rambling Redhead
Our Mountain Stronghold
Psalm 52:7 The word strength here means mountain stronghold, a place of refuge. Just think about that for a moment… Mountain stronghold. When I think of a mountain, I think of something huge, strong, unbreakable. The dictionary says this about a mountain, “ a natural elevation of the earth's surface rising more or less abruptly to a summit, and attaining an altitude greater than that of a hill, usually greater than 2000 feet (610 meters).” Why do we look to man? Why do we care what man thinks? A man at his best is just human. God is our refuge, if you will, our safe place. When I am worn down from life, the Lord is my refuge. When others have failed me, the Lord is my refuge. When others talk bad about me, the Lord is my refuge. When I am stressed, the Lord is my refuge. When I am frustrated, the Lord is my refuge. When I am fearful, the Lord is my mountain stronghold. Lord, help me remember not to place my trust in man, money, or earthly things. My trust should depend on You. You are my strength, my mountain stronghold, my place of refuge.
**I ‘know’ this but tend to forget it often. Generally, when I’m stressed, worn down, etc. lol. I try to remember Who God is and What He is to me, and that helps to change my perspective a lot. When I’m feeling sorry for myself, I remember all that He has done, not just in my life, but others as well, plus all the stories in the Bible.
