Thoughts from a Rambling Redhead
As We Harkened Unto Moses
The phrase “as we harkened unto Moses in all things, so will we harken unto thee“, got me to thinking. It sounds really good. It sounds like they were obedient servants to the Lord and they followed Moses explicitly. But they didn’t. They often rebelled and did what they thought was right even though Moses tried to lead them. As we know, they didn’t always listen to Joshua. God gave them all these things and they were so ungrateful. They didn’t remember the past. They didn’t remember all the miracles, all the plagues, all the things that happened to them while wandering in the wilderness. I mean, for 40 years their shoes never got old, their clothing never got worn and yes, we could look at it like they got bored with the same old thing for 40 years, however, it was a miracle that nothing ever got old . He gave them a land that was flowing literally with milk and honey. The grapes were big, everything was given to them. They didn’t have to work for it and yet they were so ungrateful. That got me thinking about today. Aren’t we just like that? God has given us so much and yet we are ungrateful and not thankful. We forget the miracles, the blessings, He’s done in the past for us. Honestly, it’s why I keep a journal. I’m so forgetful, and I forget things that God has done for me. I can then look back and reflect on the goodness of God. Sometimes all we can see is the obstacles that are in front of us instead of the miracles that got us to where we are now and will continue to get us through (I’m so guilty of this). Over and over again in the book of Joshua, God is encouraging Joshua to be strong, have courage, knowing that the Lord is right there by him and I think it’s because we as humans are so frail and forgetful and easily persuade. We need to be of good courage, be strong, and remember the Lord is with us.
