Thoughts from a Rambling Redhead
Noah Found Grace
We know that Noah found grace (favor) in the eyes of the Lord, and the Bible says he was a just (righteous) man and perfect (blameless) and that he walked with God (6;8,9). Because of this, Noah’s life and his family were spared because of who he was. Would my walk with God save my family? It’s a very sobering thought, yet we see that his life did. He obeyed God in building the Ark and getting the materials, food, and animals, even though he truly didn’t understand how it would all work. Remember, at this time, the earth was watered by a mist that came up from the ground, not the sky (Gen. 2:6). I’m sure it must have all been very strange, yet he obeyed.
Being on the Ark must have had its challenges. We tend to think of it as a cruise, but I’m sure it was far from that. I’m sure the family must have gotten on each other’s nerves occasionally. Getting fresh air and being in nature helps ground a person, yet they didn’t have that for over a year. Yes, I think they must have had challenges periodically. Can you imagine stepping off the Ark! Land! Not moving! Talk about sea legs, lol. How thrilling that must have been in every way. I imagine they could see God’s promise to them in the sky, the rainbow! How beautiful that must have been. Rainbows today are beautiful, and I love seeing them and thinking of God’s promise, but can you imagine being on the Ark for over a year and not seeing anything but brown and then stepping out of the Ark and seeing nature (lots of colors) and then looking up and seeing the rainbow!! What a gift!
Even though we see how great Noah was and that the actions of his life saved his family, we also see his human nature side. According to chapter 9, verses 20 and 21, he got drunk, and because of this, his nakedness was revealed. How can he go from being perfect (blameless) to being drunk? He was no longer blameless. What can we learn from Noah?
1. My actions will affect my family in some way or another. a. Saved their lives b. New generations 2. My actions will affect my family in some way or another. a. Drunkenness & nakedness b. Son cursed c. Sons blessed
I love that God let us see both sides of Noah. He wasn’t perfect (as in no sin). He did right, but at times, he also did wrong, and we see the consequences of it. To sum it up, he was human, but God still used him even though he did wrong. The Bible tells us that he lived 350 AFTER the flood. God wasn’t done with him yet. God will still use me when I mess up and do wrong. My life isn’t over. God can still use me if I’m willing to be used by God.
